Service Management task when the service has an instance

I'm trying to use the build in Service Management task in Altiris 7.1 that allows you to start, stop, restart or change the start mode of services running on the clients.

I'm able to manipulate services that are standard on Windows 2008 R2 with no problem (like trustedisntaller, for instance) but our backup solution service has an instance associated with it. When I try to start the service evmgrc.exe, with or without the instance Instance001, I get an error 9, Path not found.

I tried specifying the entire path to the executable, but you are not allowed to put in "\" in the field for service to be restarted.

Has anyone run into this issue, and have a solution or workaround?
